The reason why states should license a second class of midwife, with less education and clinical training than any other midwife in the industrialized world, is ....?That's the crux of the issue. It's not about midwifery, since we have midwives. It about a different class of midwives, different from CNMs and different from midwives in other first world countries. Why should we do it? How would it benefit women? And how can it possibly be safe if the standards are much lower than any other industrialized country?
