An amazing fact about homebirth
Homebirth advocates often claim as a target that 10% of all births should be homebirths. Let's imagine for a moment what that would be like. That would mean that there would be approximately 400,000 homebirths per year. All the existing scientific evidence shows that homebirth has an excess rate of preventable neonatal death in the range of 1-2/1000. That does not sound like much, until you consider this:If 10% of American babies were delivered by homebirth, homebirth deaths would vault to the 3rd or 4th leading cause of neonatal death!
