Is it acceptable to break the law?
We have repeatedly discussed the issue of licensure for direct entry midwives. To date, most states do not license direct entry midwives, so midwives who are practicing in those states are breaking the law.Is it acceptable for people to break laws that they don't agree with?
Is breaking the law more acceptable for DEMs than for other people?
If midwives think that it is acceptable for them to break the law, is it acceptable for other professionals (nurses, doctors) to break the licensure laws and practice if they have not met the requirements of those laws? Why or why not?
Who is entitled to decide which laws should be respected and which laws can be ignored?
