Homebirth gone wrong
A pediatrics resident wrote that at his NICU at any given time there are 2 or 3 babies with brain damage because of inadequate resuscitation at a home birth and asked the obvious question: How can you be responsible for the birth of a baby and not know how to resuscitate the child should something go wrong? He had posted a moving description of a baby in his care, but has removed the post out of concern that it may be seen by the family and increase their grief. I am removing the quote also, but if you have already read it, you know that it provides a frightening glimpse at how easily things can spin out of control at a homebirth, and how the baby can end up with permanent brain damage.
